Learn The Skills The Basketball Pros Use

It’s impossible to repair a car engine without proper research. The same standard goes for a sport like basketball. Use these tips to improve you game to an expert level.

Watch your form while you dribble the ball. Finger tips, not palms, are the key to successful dribbling. When you do this you will have more control over the ball. When dribbling the basketball you should bounce it to your side instead of right in front. Always look up and never look down at the ground.

Crossovers are very important if you’re a ball handler. When you do a crossover, you move the basketball very fast from one hand over to the other hand. This action most be quick to work out. When done properly, crossover dribbling is a great way to quickly switch direction or move around the court in an efficient manner.

Free throws require both mental and physical abilities. You may know how to make a free throw but if your focus is off, then you will miss. Take a deep breath, relax and imagine you are at practice to help yourself make the shot.

A great way to hone your own basketball abilities is to watch the pros. You can do this by watching games in person and on television. You will notice great skills from different players that you can practice.

Strong Core

Basketball players need to build strong core muscles. That means their hips, lower back and abs. The core links both the lower and upper extremities. Without a strong core, they will have limited athletic performance. A solid and strong core lets force that comes from the legs get used for beneficial movements when playing, like faster running and higher jumping.

Try practicing looking in the opposite direction when you pass. This may confuse your opponents, greatly. When you do this right, looking this way will make the opponents go to the wrong place so that when you pass the other person has a better chance at making a shot. It really can be a powerful technique.

Free Throw

A routine can enable your free throw percentage to rise. Inconsistent shooting will lead to inconsistent results. If you want to perfect free throw shooting, pick a routine and repeat it continuously. Failing to stick with your routine can adversely affect your shooting accuracy.

To help make the offense flow better it is a good idea to alter the pace. When you approach the goal, put your front foot in firm place and start straightening up. The guard is going to think you’re starting to slow and will straighten up too. When they do, push ahead hard and outrun them.

Remain low when playing defense. This helps you jump fast and react quickly. Be in the correct defensive stance all the time. When you block a shot, go back to a defensive form quickly.

To help practice three-point shooting you should practice shooting at the NBA distance. The International standard line, as well as college and high school lines are all closer. By learning to shoot from NBA distances, you improve your range tremendously.

Learning to improve things on your own initiative imparts a feeling of pride. Reading and learning as much as you can and transferring that knowledge onto the court will better your game. This can help you and your team score more.
