Basketball is a time honored sport which offers entertainment to those playing as well as those watching the game. If you are interested in the game, you must have the proper skills and the right mindset. Go over this article to improve your knowledge to help further your understanding of the game.

You should practice pass catching regularly. Practice catching errant throws along with perfect passes. In the heat of the game, not every pass is going to hit the bulls-eye. You can do the rest of your team a favor by practicing how you can best complete imperfect passes.

A great way to learn how to pass is by doing drills often with no dribbling. While this may be difficult, it gets you used to finding teammates and thinking on the run. Keep your emotions in check if quality passing is not happening right away as it takes time to perfect this part of the game.

See if your teammates admire something in particular about your game play. Do they feel you are really good at something? You may be quick with your footwork or are always there for backing them up. Develop your strengths even further and look for ways to improve your weaknesses.

Practice your footwork and control the position of your feet at all times. If you fall on a baseline, you will be out of bounds. Holding the ball for too many steps and not dribbling will result in a walking call which will cause you to you will lose possession of the ball. Moving either of your feet when setting a pick, screen, or even take a charge will result in a foul.

Opposite Direction

Practice passing while looking the opposite direction. This will make your actions very confusing to the other team. Not only will they not see the pass coming, they may think a pass is going in the opposite direction. Practicing this pass can really help to give your team the winning edge.

Never break your defensive stance when playing ball. Use your opposite foot to push with or slide your feet around. If you never allow your feet to cross one another you will invariably be a very hard player to get passed.

Have two of your guards wait for the point guard to go past midcourt for the best results. Once he passes mid court the guards should rush up on him. Simultaneously, forwards should block sprint toward wing players. Your forwards should easily be able to steal the pass that the point guard throws.

To help practice three-point shooting you should practice shooting at the NBA distance. The standard line and college lines are much closer. If you are able to make NBA-range three-point-shots, you will be able to find more open looks during your own games.

Be sure to be well acquainted with your team mates so that you can all work well in cooperation. Basketball involves playing on a team. Offense and defense aren’t 1 on 1. Players on the same team help each one another out. Speak with them and make them aware of when you require assistance so that all of you play better.

If you are serious about basketball then you should be serious about your diet. Basketball uses a lot of energy; therefore, it is important to fuel your body with lean protein and whole grains. Enjoy lean proteins, whole grains and nuts. Stay away from salt and sugar as much as possible.

You have to change the path of your opponent. Regardless of your position, having this control allows you to limit the other player’s options. This opens up passing lanes and shooting chances when you’re on offense and can help create turnovers when you’re on defense.

Passing is the most important part of the game: not shooting. Passing moves the ball quicker and confuses the opposing team. Plus, it shows you are all about the teamwork, which your fellow team members will appreciate. You have to wait for the right time to showcase your talents. Show some good judgement and give others the opportunity to score some points when it is appropriate.

When you use these tips, you will have more fun when playing basketball. Take the time to read more articles and check out blogs and videos so that your learning doesn’t end here. Take in as much as you can in order for you to improve your game.
